I was not very good in reading and writing, yet passed the examination of Lower PCS and PCS, now I am sub-registrar
For a girl who has always had a second division in school-college, when she clears the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) examination, then the day is nothing less than a celebration. Those people who once used to taunt her for being a daughter, now there was silence on her face and now this second division girl has become an idol for the rest of the girls in the locality. These are the words of Neetu Gola, Sub-registrar posted in Agra.
Growing up in Firozabad, 34-year-old Neetu says in a special conversation with Woman Bhaskar, 'I have never been a topper student. You should get the marks you deserve to pass, that's all you have to wish for. Schooling went on in turmoil. My mother was often ill and I was the second girl among five siblings after the elder brother, so the responsibilities would have been felt early.
BEd became the turning point
I always wanted to do something so that I can earn enough to make my mother healthy and improve the financial condition of my family. Studied from Government School and College in Firozabad.
After finishing BA, I did B.Ed and B.Ed became the turning point of my life. Actually, I got such a good rank in B.Ed that I got to study in government college. At the same time, those girls who were toppers got private colleges. This achievement was so inspiring for me that I felt that now I can crack any exam.
After B.Ed, prepare for LLB and PCS exam together. I had decided that the government job is water, but I did not have guidance. For preparation, daily up-down from Firozabad to Agra.
Started studies without guidance
I didn't know where to start and where to end. Should I take coaching or should I prepare on my own? I had many questions, but there was no one who could get out of these troubles.
When an art student was taught to study mathematics, he missed sixes. For this he took coaching in Agra itself. Started the preparation without seeing the PCS syllabus. Started studying all the subjects. Whoever appeared for the government exam would fill the form. Which exam should I prepare for first, I used to be confused in this. There was no way to be found.
In the midst of this confusion, I gave the PCS exam and passed the pre (preliminary) in the first time, the mains got stuck. I gave the attempt again, this time also the pre passed and I did not give the mains exam because there was no such preparation. I understood that I am studying without seeing the syllabus and previous year paper, I do not even know how questions are going to come in the paper or what the department wants from me.
study from youtube
I moved to Delhi in 2015. Here only study history from coaching, study all other subjects with the help of YouTube. I learned from my mistakes and decided that if I am preparing for civil then I will stick to it. I will not wander
I used to focus on reading more than writing, while later I learned that 40 percent should be focused on reading and 60 percent on writing. I was just studying, so maybe my two attempts were unsuccessful.
I had also filled the form of Review Officer in Lower PCS before the two time PCS attempt and it got cleared in the first time itself. I got my first posting as Marketing Inspector in Meerut.
now posted in Agra
This first success proved to be a booster dose for me to crack the rest of the exams. Now the confidence of passing PCS has increased even more. Now I have given third attempt of PCS and this time both pre and mains have been cleared. Now I am working as Deputy Registrar in Agra.
It took a long time to reach here. In this civil service journey, I took the lower PCS exam in three years, it took six years to clear the upper PCS. I think if the right guidance had been given at the right time, success would have been achieved earlier.
The lock on the mouth of the tyrant
The people who used to taunt me or my family in my locality that it has become so big, parents do not marry but have sent them to study outside the house, now the mouths of those taunts are locked. Now every other girl in my locality wants to become PCS.
All the children who are preparing for this exam should not fall in the trap of small coaching. Take coaching from a good place, otherwise you can also prepare from a good YouTube channel. It takes some time to clear all these exams, but you do not get defeated. Keep working hard and keep moving forward.
